Dr. Zainulbahar Noor, S.E., M.Ec., born in Binjai, North Sumatra, on November 8, 1943, is an exemplary figure in Islamic economics and zakat institutions in Indonesia; after earning a doctorate in Islamic Economics and Finance from Trisakti University in 2015. He has had a brilliant career starting as President Director of Bank Muamalat Indonesia (1991–1996), becoming the Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan (2009–2012) and receiving the “First Class of Independence” medal of honor from King Abdullah II for his diplomatic contributions, then becoming Deputy Chairman of BAZNAS (2015–2020) and currently leading the institution (2020–present). Active as Secretary General of the World Zakat Forum (WZF) for the 2020–2023 period. and has served as Chairman of the WZWF Advisory Board since 2024. He was also appointed as an Honorary Professor at As-Syafi’iyah Islamic University, where his scientific oration emphasized the importance of optimizing zakat in poverty alleviation and economic development of the community.
