Jakarta, April 21, 2026 – Trisakti University’s Doctoral Program in Economics once again held a doctoral promotion defense (open examination) as the final stage of doctoral studies. On Tuesday (April 21), student Arief Hartawan held the defense, presenting research on the development of a sustainable halal supply chain in the Islamic boarding school-based agricultural sector.

Arief Hartawan, a student majoring in Islamic Economics and Finance, presented his dissertation entitled “Strategies for Developing a Sustainable Halal Supply Chain in Islamic Boarding School Agricultural Product Businesses.” This research discusses strategies for strengthening the halal ecosystem for Islamic boarding school agricultural products through an integrated, competitive, and sustainable supply chain system.

The doctoral promotion hearing was held from 10:00 WIB until finished by presenting a team of examiners from internal and external to the university. Acting as the Chief Examiner was Prof. Dr. Willy Arafah, DBA, accompanied by Dr. Husna Leila Yusran, MM, CMA, CPMA as the secretary of the hearing. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Yolanda Masnita Siagian, MM, CIRR, CMA, CPM was present as the promoter and Dr. Lavlimatria Esya, M.Si as the co-promoter.

The other examiners consisted of Dr. Nirdukita Ratnawati, ME, and two external examiners, Dr. Djaka Kusmartata, MM, and Dr. Effendi Sadly, MA. The proceedings were recorded by note-taker Dr. Sisca.

The research topic is considered highly relevant to the development of the national and global halal industry. Islamic boarding schools, as centers for empowering the community’s economy, are considered to have significant potential for developing halal-based agricultural businesses. This dissertation is expected to produce policy models and implementation strategies that can strengthen the position of Islamic boarding schools in the national halal supply chain.

This doctoral promotion hearing is an important momentum in producing doctoral graduates who have real contributions to the development of economics, Islamic finance, and sustainable economic development in Indonesia.
